Microsoft reintroduced pop-up notifications on Windows to encourage users to switch from Chrome to Bing. The intrusive advertisements, likened to malware for their disruptive nature, first appeared last year.
Windows users have recently noticed new pop-ups advertising Bing AI and the Bing search engine in Chrome. Clicking “yes” changes Chrome’s default search engine to Bing, but the legitimacy of these alerts is being questioned due to their suspicious appearance.

The company employs various strategies to persuade users to switch to Bing and Edge. Microsoft’s intensified efforts to promote its services through pop-ups on the Windows taskbar and other platforms have been causing frustration. Following a Windows update, the company has already made the switch to Edge mandatory and frequently shows full-screen messages to encourage the switch to Bing and Edge after updates.
Earlier this year, Microsoft had to address an issue where the Edge browser imported browsing data and Chrome tabs without permission. This problem affected users like me who encountered it after a PC restart following a Windows update.
